The challenge for Western Indian Ocean countries is “how to achieve successful economic growth, build social welfare and equity AND maintain the health of ocean ecosystems"

East and Southern Africa (ESA) comprises ten coastal countries bordering the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) – Comoros, France, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Somalia, South Africa and Tanzania.

These scenarios were developed through support for the Northern Mozambique Channel and Western Indian Ocean SDG 14 process in 2017 and 2018. Funds were provided by the Government of Sweden to WWF Madagascar. Coordination was led by WWF and CORDIO, with Reos Partners implementing the Transformative Scenario Process.
The process was implemented under umbrella of the Nairobi Convention and the SDG14/Ocean Conference, 2017
