About the 2nd SSF Summit

This event is designed to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (SSF Guidelines) to advance priority actions for sustainable small-scale fisheries and to assess the current status of the SSF Guidelines implementation at the national, regional and global level to inform future actions. Participants will focus on Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 of the SSF Guidelines, per consultation with small-scale fishers, their organizations and/or representatives, and relevant stakeholders during the design phase of this event.

The SSF Summit will serve as a global platform for small-scale fisheries movements to engage with governments and other small-scale fisheries advocates in an accessible and non-technical forum to collaboratively address governance and development challenges in small-scale fisheries while proposing and sharing solutions to foster and strengthen the implementation of the SSF Guidelines.

Up to 300 people are expected to join the 2nd SSF Summit! These will be primarily representative of small-scale fisheries organizations and movements, but also inter-governmental organizations, NGOs and governments, taking into account regional, gender and age balance. If you are a country representative participating in FAO’s Committee on Fisheries and would like to participate on Saturday, July 6 and/or Sunday, July 7, please register here by May 20 at the latest. We have limited capacity, and will confirm your attendance by June 5.

Following the previous edition, the 2nd SSF Summit 2022 will take place over the course of three days. The first day of the SSF Summit is reserved for small-scale fisheries organizations and movements only to meet and engage in dialogue. The second and third days are open to other invitees to discuss priority topics. To review the preliminary agenda, please click here.

The SSF Summit is an inclusive event: Interpretation will be made available in the plenary sessions in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese (tbc) and Arabic and, depending on funding, also for the parallel session in selected language.

Please contact us at info@ssfhub.org if you have questions!
