Territorial Use Rights for Fishing (TURFs) are an area-based management approach in which fishermen and/or communities are granted secure, exclusive privileges to fish in a specified area. In this six-chapter course series, you will learn about TURF design, explore examples of TURFs around the world and will help design a TURF in a hypothetical fishery.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of TURF management.
  • Discuss the diversity of TURF designs and application around the world.
  • Understand the types of decisions that are made in the TURF design process.
