Palau Fisher Leader's Dialogue
Monday, April 11 7:00-9:00 pm (GMT+9)
A roundtable discussion between small-scale fishing sector leaders from the Our Ocean Conference host nation. The discussion will focus on challenges facing small-scale fishers and spotlight solutions for sustainable, community-led conservation of Palau’s coastal ocean waters. The event will be recorded and made available following the event.
Global Fisher Leader's Dialogue
Monday, April 11 9:00-11:30 pm (GMT+9)
In partnership with EDF, we will host a virtual discussion between small-scale fishing sector leaders representing coastal nations focusing on the most pressing concerns of small-scale fishers and spotlight solutions for sustainable, community-led conservation of coastal ocean waters. The event is part of a series of dialogues that Rare and our partners are hosting this year, in connection with the 2022 International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA). The event will be recorded and made available following the event.
Engaging Youth Ocean Leaders
Tuesday, April 12 2:00 pm (GMT+9)
Forty youth delegates – half from Palau, half from elsewhere around the world – will come together to share perspectives and passion for ocean advocacy. The event will be an opportunity for the youth advocates to draft statements in support of ocean action to be delivered to the fisheries ministers of participating nations.
Coastal 500 Champions Dialogue
Tuesday, April 12 9:00 pm (GMT+9)
The Coastal 500 is a global network of mayors and other local leaders committed to thriving coastal communities. The Champions Dialogue will feature members of the Coastal 500 responding to the outputs of the fisher leader dialogue. Learn more about the Coastal 500 here.
Ministerial Dialogue
April 14 8:30-9:30 am (GMT+9) – Palau Community College, Side Event Room 3
Convened by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment (MAFE) of the Republic of Palau, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Rare, a Ministerial Dialogue between ministers from several coastal nations discussing challenges facing small-scale fishers and coastal communities. The Ministers will also respond to recommendations from fisher leaders, coastal mayors, and youth advocates, and discuss progress on commitments. The event will be recorded and made available following the event.
