CRAFT INDUSTRY WASTE
Blue swimming crab is a high-value export commodity, almost 95% of crabs are exported and about 53% enter the USA market. In 2012 – 2017 the volume and value of Indonesian crab exports increased by 0.67% and 6.06% per year, respectively. Potential to be developed apart from crab meat (meat) which is in great demand as a food product, namely crab waste in the form of hard skin (cangkan) and boiled water. Waste from crab shells can reach 350 kg/day. Crab shells can be used for cosmetics, fish feed, fertilizer, various care products, pharmaceuticals and sanitizers (glucosamine, ointment, blood clot, etc.). In addition to shells, boiled water that has been discarded so far can also be used as a food taste, but the obstacle faced so far is that the processing process encountered in the field still uses river and sea water to boil unhygienic and product safety standards for food. This was conveyed by Dr. Ir Wini Trilaksani, M.Sc at the Workshop on Utilization, Processing and Analysis of the Market Potential of the Rajungan Industrial Waste, at the Bukit Randu Hotel which was held by EDF Indonesia on November 30, 2021.
This activity was also attended by regional apparatus organizations including the Regional Planning and Development Agency (Bappeda), the Cooperatives and UMKM Service, the Fisheries Service, fishermen, field assistants from the districts of East Lampung, Central Lampung, Tulang Bawang and the Marine and Fisheries Service. Lampung province. In addition to IPB, the speakers who were presented also came from fishery product business actors. The community also needs to make serious efforts to develop the crab commodity business and there is no need to worry, the service will support facilities and infrastructure and it is better if a business group is created through cooperatives and access to capital from banks is very easy with low interest (Titin Sumarni, SP Fisheries Head of Improvement Division Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products, Central Lampung).
According to Mrs. Liza, Head of the Competitiveness of Fishery Products, Tulang Bawang Regency, "Lampung crab commodities can be a superior product, apart from shrimp which are used for various kinds of processed food products by encouraging the development of the creative economy, however, downstream is a key factor in business development. What is being done is that fishermen can help the family economy which has been relying on their husbands. Synergy between stakeholders is also needed to become a priority program through financial support, institutional strengthening through cooperatives and SMEs including capital facilitation.
Muhammad Rafi, as an entrepreneur who became a resource person at the Workshop, said that creative marketing strategies are needed and don't be afraid of business failure, the most important thing is to learn from mistakes. The business principle is attractive packaging, easier to market and more durable and should not only take profit but it is important to help the people's economy.
