En asociación con Environmental Defense Fund, están lanzando su segunda Aceleradora de Liderazgo | Resiliencia en la Pesca Artesanal específicamente para agentes de cambio en Latinoamérica. 🎣

Durante el programa de 13 semanas, tú y tu cohorte explorarán sus estilos de liderazgo. Se sumergirán y aplicarán lecciones claves de liderazgo a su propio trabajo, como el manejo de polaridades, la resolución de conflictos y el pensamiento sistémico, y juntos trabajarán para construir una industria pesquera sostenible y resiliente en América Latina.

To celebrate International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGIS), the CERMES-led Gender In Fisheries Team (GIFT) is highlighted the super women of the sargassum research team! The work they have been involved in will result in Bringing Everyone Forward for Sustainable and Equitable Development - as sargassum is both a threat to and opportunity for sustainable and equitable development. Hi everyone! I know spawning aggregation sites are critically important to many species in the Caribbean. I just ran across this blog and journal article (open access) that I thought might be of interest to this group. In short, through the protection of spawning aggregation sites in the U.S. Virgin Islands using seasonal closures to protect spawning activity during peak seasons, the red hind, saw a 35% increase in average fish size and the recovery of the population to a benchmark considered sustainable for many fish species.

We know that groupers are being greatly affected by climate change and they are highly vulnerable to overfishing. What species are projected to be the most vulnerable to climate change in the fisheries and countries where you work? I would love to learn some more!

journal prompt: Parrot fish are fascinating fish who actually carry a lot of responsibility for the creation of the beautiful and sandy beaches of the Caribbean. Therefore, a decrease in the parrot fish population can have drastic social and economic implication for the Caribbean. What fish are important to the region that you are from and why? Do you have an experience with said fish that you can share?
